-[Corset Tutorial]-
This is the style of corset I shall be making.

Base by DHF

1. Place your chosen base in the middle of a canvas. I use a 400x400 canvas.

2. Colours are a very important choice for your doll as is your pallette.
- The corset is going to be green. So I create a pallette using 6 shades of green. I usually space the shade gap evenly between each shade. Once I have all 6 colours I then select the darkest colour and then I lower it's saturation and put this colour beside the darkest colour and then I have a darker shade of the less saturated colour above it. I will explain about these later.

3. Corsets are very stiff and solid pieces of clothing so the challence is to recreate this. Go to Fairy Goth Mother to have a look at some real corsets.
-Use colour 1 to draw in the outline of your corset. It doesn't matter if it cuts of parts of the base as a corset pulls in the waist so we are going to loose some of it anyway.

4. Tidy up the line so that it is only one pixel thick at any point. Also erase the base from where it pokes out the side of the doll and where necessary draw in bits of other limbs such as down the left side of the corset where the arm appears behind the waist.

5. Fill the inside of the corset with colour 4.

6. Use colour 3 to draw in the areas of shade. A corset is very basic to shade because of it's stiff nature.

7. Use colour 2 to add some even darker areas in. The line between colour 2 and 3 is wobbly and not straight like the first shadow colour to avoid the corset looking too stiff and cartoony.

8. Use colour 5 to add the highlight area on the front of the corset. I also use a wobbly line for this transition of colour which makes the colour flow smoothly between the shade changes.

9. Using colour 6 I add the last of the highlights onto the doll. I just simple lightly scribble this colour on in horizontal lines as you can see from the picture. Try not to go overboard with this colour.

10. I then use colour A to add the extreme shadow down the right side under the arm and then I use colour B to change the outline colour where colour A touches the outline.

11. Using colour 3 I add the centre line of the corset onto the doll. This is the fastening at the front of the corset. Corsets always lace at the back. Any front lacing or details that are seen are usually for decorative purposes only.

12. Then using a light grey I add 4 clasps down the front of the corset.

13. Corsets don't just alter the shape of the waist, they push the bust upwards slightly so the shading that is already on the base will be inacurate. I blanked out the shading that was already there so I could not get confused when drawing in the new bust shape.

14. Using the first highlight colour already used on the base I drew in where the bust would now be pushed up to.

15. Using the lightest colour I then added the extra highlights in.

16. Then using the Shade colour I added in a couple of shadows that would be created.

17. Now zoom out and have a look at your doll and touch up any areas you think do not look quite right.

18. Add clothes and hair and there you have it. Your doll complete with traditional corset.
