Step 5 - Details
Now that we have out skirt we have to add a few details like a buckle holding
it shut and perhaps a plaid pattern since she is a rock chick and all.
To create the small bits of belt that hold the skirt closed. I use the same
procedures as with everything else, make a new layer, draw it in flat colour,
lock transparency and shade though I often just use a dark shade and a highlight
since it’s so small.
For the buckle I make a new layer and use the brush to add a couple of blurry
marks in a gold colour, the buckle is an illusion, drawing an actual buckle would
be too heavy so just some marks to indicate a buckle will do.
To add the plaid create a new layer beneath the buckle but above the skirt, use a
1px brush with 100% opacity and flow and draw in the checked pattern, don’t worry
about going over the edges, we erase those later. Follow the lines of the fold so
don’t just use a straight across line. Perhaps add a coloured or white stripe too.
To erase the bits of pattern outside the skirt, go to the skirt layer and magic
wand select outside the skirt area and go back to the plaid layer and press
delete, poof! It’s gone!
Lower the Opacity to around 50 where the plaid looks like it’s part of the skirt,
not just stuck onto it. Play around with the opacity and perhaps some of the layer
blend features such as linear light and multiply to see how your plaid looks then.
Zoom out and see your finished skirt.
